Jerry Lowell Fields, 79, of Nickelsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully October 2, 2026 surrounded by his family.
Jerry was born on November 14, 1946, in Kingsport, Tennessee, to the late J.P. and Nellie Mae Fields. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, teacher, and coach. His life was defined by his love for his family and the many young people whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Donna; his daughters, Melissa Trinkle and her husband, Brett, and Cindy Bays and her husband, James; his grandchildren, Haley Williams, Tatum Trinkle, Krischelle Bays, and Kaylee (Gabe) Spears; and his great-grandchildren, Margot and Eleanor Wilson. He is also survived by his sisters, Janice (Joseph) Flynt and Judy Williams, and his brother, Larry Fields.
Jerry dedicated 36 years to Scott County Public Schools, spending most of his career teaching and coaching at Twin Springs High School. After retirement, he found a new passion in golf. Spending many happy days playing rounds at Cattails with John McCrary, Larry Vicars, and many others. He always enjoyed spending winters in Myrtle Beach with the “Myrtle Beach Group” and fall golf trips with the guys.
His legacy will live on through the family he loved, the athletes he coached, the students he taught, and the countless lives he influenced throughout his 79 years. To all who knew him, he will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City, Virginia, with a memorial service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the Twin Springs Athletic Boosters in Jerry’s memory, honoring his many years of dedication to coaching and the student-athletes of Twin Springs.
