John Henry "Junior" Vineyard Jr.

John Henry Vineyard Jr., 71, of Hiltons went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 2, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Junior was born on May 28, 1948 in Hiltons, Virginia to the late John Henry Vineyard Sr. and Mary Lou Sorah Vineyard. He retired from General Shale after 37 years as a garage mechanic. One of his favorite things to do was sit at Paul Bright’s Garage and shoot the bull about Ford, Chevy, and politics. Some of his passions were farming, mechanic work, and his love for animals. Junior was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Along with his parents Junior is preceded in death by sister, Louise Murray; his grandparents, Samuel and Lula Doran Vineyard, Bessie Brewer; and in-laws, Roy and Kathryn Cole Sampson. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Jane Vineyard; sons, Roger Vineyard and wife Kim, Eddie Vineyard and wife Cindy; youngest son, Jared Vineyard; grandchildren, Eden, Evan, and Avery Vineyard which were his pride and joy and loved them better than cat loves cream; sisters, Mary McMurray and husband Greg, Shirley Smith and husband Albert, Brenda Bishop and Mike, Loretta McMurray and husband Rick; special friend who was more like a brother, Mack Bright and wife Tina; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 from 5PM to 7PM at Scott County Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Rev. Roger Vineyard officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 11AM on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at Holston View Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15AM. Pall bearers will be Ronald Smith, Wade Ketron, Jerry Ryans, Matthew McMurray, Marshall McMurray, Ryan Frazier, JJ Frazier, Jason Frazier, Shane Hensley, Terry Spivey, and Greg Sampson. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Bright, brother in-laws, and many friends. Carter Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Vineyard Family.
