Karen "Meme" Kaye Burke, age 70 of Gate City, passed peacefully from her earthly life on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at her home in Gate City. Karen was born on January 25, 1956, in Kingsport, TN to Herman and Phyllis Ferguson Burke. Karen worked for 30 plus years as a RN and Respiratory Therapist and proudly served the residents of her community. She was well known as an outstanding nurse with a free-spirited soul.
Karen loved all types of music, art, and going to concerts. She enjoyed woodworking where she was able to bring her creative thoughts into reality. Karen drew from a lifetime of experiences to give advice that was practical, insightful, and uniquely her own. The love that she had for her family and friends will live throughout eternity. Her strong, free-spirited personality will truly be missed.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents; the father of her children, Steve Jennings; two brothers, Mark Burke, and Steve Burke; and one sister, Jenny Staples. Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Morgan Jennings, and Laura Jennings; six grandchildren, Kadence Jennings, Kyle Fields, Ryan Jennings, Gracelyn Ramsey, Hunter Ramsey, and John Conley Snodgrass; one brother, David Burke and his wife, Yolanda; two nieces, Sarah Medukas, and Lindsey Burke-Rodriguez; one nephew, Adam Burke; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Burke, and Louise Burke; one aunt, June Osborne; many cousins; and several other family members and friends.
