Thomas “Tom” Dewey Fields II, age 59 of Gate City, VA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 21, 2025. Tom was born on September 24, 1965, in Kingsport, TN to Thomas and Mary Fields. Tom retired from Eastman in 2024. On December 22, 1989, Tom married Carol Ellis and spent 35 years together raising a family.
Tom loved his family and enjoyed his time with his beloved grandchildren. He was a hard worker and enjoyed farming, woodworking, and many other hobbies. Tom was active in the Boy Scouts, the Yuma Ruritan, and he was the Sunday School Superintendent at Chalybeate Springs United Methodist Church.
Tom was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Claude and Virgie Cole Fields; and his maternal grandparents, Peter and Kate McDavid Darter. Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Thomas and Mary Fields; his loving wife, Carol Fields; two sons, Wesley Fields (Rachel), and Nathan Fields (Autumn); daughter, Miranda Fields (Nathan McConnell); four grandchildren, Waylon and Corbin Fields, and Murphee and Millie McConnell; and many loving family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with pastors Wayne Baker and Mike Webb officiating. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 am at Fields Family Cemetery. The cemetery is located at 501 Sawmill Lane, Gate City, VA. Tom’s family and friends will be serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 am.
