Carol Ann Bloede
Dec 25, 1926 — Apr 13, 2020
Met with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 13, 2020, the day after Easter. She was 93 years old.
Carol was born on December 25, 1926 at 6:00 a.m. in the town of Genesee, Wisconsin at the family homestead to the late Henry and Gertrude (Sugden) Brust. Her siblings always said, “It was the best Christmas gift ever!”
Carol is survived by her children, Richard (Kaye) Bloede and Debra Bloede of Waukesha, two grandchildren, Caroline (Richard) Serres, Elisabeth Bloede and two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Nicholas Serres. She is further survived by her sister-in-laws, June (Joe) Jackson, Doris Kramer, Nieces; Patricia (Wayne) Becker, Candie (Roy) Peterson, and nieces and nephews on her husband’s side. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Bloede, married 69 years, her parents, Henry Martin and Gertrude (Sugden) Brust, her brothers, Henry (Bud) Brust, Dale Brust and sisters, Gertrude (Betty) Gott and Ida Mae (Idie) Mickel.
Carol grew up on a farm with chickens, cows, and horses. Her hard-working, parents taught her the importance of a good work ethic. She learned how to treat people with love and respect by her parents’ examples living through the Great Depression and WWII.
Carol graduated from Waukesha High School, then became a teller at the First National Bank in Waukesha. That is where she met the love of her life, Bill Bloede. They were married on September 3, 1949. With the help of family, they built their own home, Carol shingling the roof right along with the men, where they lived for 69 years, until Bill’s death. Carol was never afraid of hard work! She was a stay-at-home mother. In addition to caring for her 2 children, she was an avid baker and seamstress; canning and freezing vegetables from the garden, making clothes, curtains, quilts, knitting mittens, scarves and crocheting. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, camping, fishing, golfing and loved playing cards with family and friends. Carol and Bill became “Snow Birds,” enjoying the warmth of Arizona in the winter months.
Carol was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ in Waukesha since 1949. She was a longtime member of the Women’s Guild and Priscilla Circle. Carol was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader enjoying time with her two children. She volunteered at Lawrence School in the library, various PTA activities, and helped organize the first Annual Chicken BBQ with Chuck Rohr, at Lawrence School, which is still held today at Rose Glen School. After raising her two children, Carol worked for the Waukesha School District as a secretary at Lawrence School, then moving to Central Middle (Les Paul) School where she was a secretary for the teachers. After retiring, Carol continued to be an avid volunteer at various organizations.
Carol was a kind, loving, generous person putting other people’s needs before her own. She taught her children the importance of love, honesty and personal integrity, which she lived. She will be greatly missed by all of the lives she touched.
