Dennis D. Mohr

Dennis “Denny” Mohr, 85, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, just days before his 86th birthday.

Denny was born on September 20, 1940, in Franklin, Minnesota, to Wilbur and Violet Mohr. When he was young, his family moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in 1958 and went on to attend Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and the University of Minnesota. Later in life, he continued his education at Waukesha County Technical College, attending night school while working.

In October 1963, Denny was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country proudly, was released to the active reserve in October 1965, and was honorably discharged in July 1970.

Denny was a hardworking man who spent more than 31 years with Dial Corporation before beginning a second career with BSI Scales in New Berlin, where he worked for more than 20 years. He was the kind of person who could always be counted on—patient, dependable, and never afraid to lend a hand when someone needed it.

Family was an important part of Denny’s life. He met Sherry Underwood, and the two were married on February 22, 1964. Together they welcomed their children, Erika and Michael. Although their marriage later ended in divorce, Denny remained a loving and devoted father. In May 1993, he married Shirley Ann (nee Liebl) Pool, and the two shared many years together until her passing.

Denny had a lifelong love of aviation that became a defining part of his life. He was involved with the Experimental Aircraft Association for more than 40 years and generously volunteered his time at EAA AirVenture. He was also a member of the Waukesha Aviation Club and enjoyed attending the Sun ’n Fun Aerospace Expo. For Denny, aviation was about much more than airplanes. It was about the people, the friendships, the stories, and being part of a community he truly loved. For more than four decades, he showed up, pitched in, and helped wherever he was needed.

When he wasn't around airplanes, Denny enjoyed camping, photography, and spending time with the people he loved. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends, sharing a conversation, helping with a project, or simply enjoying time together. He had a quiet way about him, but those who knew him knew they could depend on him. Denny didn't need to be the center of attention. He was simply there when you needed him—and that meant a great deal to the people in his life.

Denny was also a longtime member of the American Legion and Ascension Lutheran Church in Waukesha.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Erika (Steve) Hickman and Michael (Patrice McDonald) Mohr; his grandchildren, Eric (Angela Huff) Mohr, Lea Mohr, Thomas (Grace Galecki) Hickman, and Olivia Hickman; and his great-grandchildren, Joey Mohr and Riley Mohr. He is also survived by his sister, Carole (Norbert) Pirri, along with extended family and many dear friends who were fortunate to know him.

Denny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley; his sisters, Marlyse Lee and Donna West; and his brother-in-law, Elmer Lee.

Denny leaves behind a life built on family, friendship, service, and a love of aviation. He was someone who could be relied upon, someone who was willing to give his time, and someone who never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His absence will be felt by many, but the memories he leaves behind will continue to bring comfort to those who loved him.

And perhaps fittingly for a man who spent so much of his life around aviation, Denny's journey now continues on to his next great adventure.

A memorial service for Denny will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1415 Dopp Street, Waukesha, WI 53188. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue until the start of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Full military honors will be presented during the service.
