Hildegard J. Madlo
Jan 12, 1921 — May 27, 2016
Hildegard "Hilda" J. Madlo (Lienerth), of Waukesha, completed her baptismal journey on May 27, 2016 at the age of 95. Hilda was born in Union, Michigan to George and Elizabeth (Reitz) Lienerth on January 12, 1921. She grew up in Detroit, Michigan, where she met and then married Fred Madlo Jr. on September 21, 1940 and raised their two daughters. Hilda was employed briefly by a factory and drugstore during WWII when Fred was serving with the US Coast Guard but spent most of her years at home as a devoted mother. She and Fred eventually moved to Sun City West, Arizona, where they enjoyed their retirement years until Fred's death in 2000, nearly 60 years after they wed. Hilda moved to Waukesha a few years later to be close to her family and spent the rest of her life as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a title that garnered her the nickname, "GG." While she enjoyed pastimes like playing Bingo, doing crossword puzzles and helping anyone working in the kitchen, her favorite activity by far was spending time surrounded by everyone she loved.
Hilda is survived by her daughters, Joanne Dutelle and Nancie Kearney, a son-in-law, Thomas Kearney, seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, who will miss her gentle kindness and cherish their memories of her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings George, Arthur, William and Elizabeth (Schunn), her husband, Fred, and her son-in-law, Joseph Dutelle.
A visitation with the family will be held at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2016 Center Road, Waukesha 53189, on Saturday, June 11 from 10:00 - 11:00 am with a service celebrating her life and witness immediately following. Another memorial service and burial will be held at a future time in Detroit, Michigan.
Because of Hilda's love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the family is requesting donations be made to Make-A-Wish® America 4742 North 24th Street, Suite 400 Phoenix, AZ 85016 or at wish.org, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation 26 Broadway, 14th Floor New York, NY 10004 or at jdrf.com.
