Kathleen E. Fischer

Kathleen E. Fischer passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026 as she rested and was cared for by the compassionate team at Angel’s Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc, WI. Her loving children were able to share stories, music, and scripture with her during her final days as she slept awaiting God’s timing to call her to her eternal home by HIS side. The family is grateful for her quick and peaceful holy transition.

Kathleen was one of three children born to Archie and Lucille (nee Litka) Komis. Born November 18, 1931, in Loyal, WI at her family’s farm house where she was raised with her twin sister Katherine Hansen and her younger brother Duane Komis.

Kathleen married Gerald Fischer on April 14, 1951. Jerry was the handsome man with sweet blue eyes that caught her fancy (and he was a good dancer) at one of the many social dances they frequented. Their marriage stood the test of time being built on unconditional love, faith, and devotion to family.

Kathleen’s greatest joy was her family who she deeply loved. She celebrated their successes, took great pleasure watching them all graduate from college, grow and thrive in life. She was always an accepting, supportive mother for them including when they needed comforting. Kathleen was an exceptional mother and spiritual guide for her family.

Kathleen is survived by her four children: Kathy Lord (Mike McGuire); Gregory Fischer (Tamara); Karen Fischer-Hannes (the late Peter); Glen Fischer (Cathy Talaska). Two grandchildren from Gregory/Tamara: Daniel Fischer (Kallista), Andrew Fischer (Stefanie). Great grandchildren from Andrew/Stefanie: Roland and Lena.

She is preceded in death by her parents Archie and Lucille Komis, husband Gerald Fischer (2011), sister Katherine Hansen (2005), brother Duane Komis (2006), and three great grandchildren.

Throughout her lifetime, church on Sunday was non-negotiable. For the past 25 years, Kathleen was a devoted member of Ascension Lutheran Church. Her faith was not just spoken, but it was the way she chose to live her life - pleasing God each day. She saw the good in others and treated everyone she met with kindness, grace, and patience. Everyone who met Kathleen could feel the compassionate warmth of her spirit.

She found real joy in life’s simple pleasures. Ice Cream or Chocolate always brought a smile to her face. She loved games and game shows: never missing an opportunity to watch Wheel of Fortune (loving Pat Sajak as host); she loved playing cards with groups of friends (500, Sheepshead) and with family, games like Sequence, SkyJo, 10 Tricks. (She was sneakily competitive.) She had a wonderful sense of humor; frequent smiles and giggling were part of daily life.

Kathleen had high standards regarding quality and work ethic. She had many work experiences throughout her life including; Soldering Technician (GTE Electric), and Drapery Seamstress (Graces Drapery). Her love for sewing was a notable talent and a lifelong passion. Many cherished items and special home textile pieces that were created by or with the assistance of Kathleen can be found in family and friend’s homes. She was generous with her time and took pride in her creations.

Kathleen was an independent thinker, strong in her convictions, and intelligent. She was proud of her education and challenged herself to stay sharp with math skills. Her beautiful handwriting was on display often as she liked sending handwritten notes to those she cared about. There were always extra words of love and inspiration in a card received from her. She was the person others would go to for encouragement, wisdom, and loving support.

Kathleen will be deeply missed by her loving family, extended family, and friends: all whose lives were made brighter by knowing this incredible woman. Beautiful inside and out, Kathleen leaves a legacy of faith, kindness, forgiveness, integrity, humility, and love which we should all aspire to carry forward.

Kathleen’s family will greet guests from 10:00am until the time of the memorial service at 11:00am on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1415 Dopp Street, Waukesha, WI 53188. Pastor Chris Marien will be officiating the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Ascension Lutheran Church.
