Kent J. Ohlis Jr.

May 7, 1938 — Aug 29, 2021

Kent J. Ohlis Jr., of Waukesha died peacefully on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at the age of 83. He was born in LaPorte, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kent J. Ohlis Sr. and Mary Louise (Opperman) Ohlis, sister, Susan Ohlis, his in-laws, Tom and Monica Nee, and many dear friends. Loving husband of 57 years to Sharon (Nee); devoted father to son Kent Ohlis III (Michelle Evans) of Bel Air, Maryland, and daughters Christine Ohlis of West Bend, and Kathleen (Christopher) Meinecke of Germantown; grandpa to his four grandchildren, Jacob and Megan Ohlis, Cooper and Kirby Meinecke. He is further survived by his sister-in-law LouAnn (Nee) Zimmerman and brother-in-law Laurence Zimmerman of Watersmeet, Michigan; and niece Hannah (Joshua and Adrian) Jones of Sun Prairie. Kent grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, where he helped his parents run Hills Coffee Shop near the Capitol. He was a graduate of Madison West High School, and attended both Carroll College and Madison Business College. In August, 1964, Kent married the love of his life, Sharon, in Madison. Kent worked for General Adjustment Bureau as a claims manager for 34 years. He embraced his role as a proud Dad, attending games, competitions, graduations, and hosted many “Ohlisfests” to celebrate the latest occasion. After retirement, he pursued his love of golf and travel. Kent was an avid golfer and often played at Kettle Moraine Golf Club, where he landed his dream job as a ranger. He golfed with friends and family and the course was always a place that made him happy. Kent loved to travel, especially to Door County with his family. Many memories were had at Al Johnson’s, where lingonberry pancakes were a must, and the Red Putter where Kent (almost) always won. Bonita Springs, Florida, was a second home in the winter for a few years where Kent could play golf, enjoy his cigars and time with friends and family. A lifelong Badger fan, which he passed down to his kids and grandkids, Kent loved sporting his Badger red wherever he traveled. He had season tickets for football games, attending many throughout his life and heard “Big O!” called out at many tailgates. Kent was always the life of the party, having a gift of making everyone feel welcome. He made sure his family was always his number one priority and he will always be remembered as a loving husband, proud dad, Boppa (Grandpa), brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He cherished every opportunity to make memories with others. His loving family is planning a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.If you wish to do something in Kent’s memory, have a toast in his honor, or donate to a charity of your choice.
