Eduard Disler
Sep 12, 1947 — Jul 27, 2026
Eduard Disler was born on September 12, 1947, in Winterthur, Switzerland to his Swiss father, Kurt and Lithuanian mother, Aniceta. The family, including his older brother, Franz, (Frank) came to the United States on the Queen Mary. They ultimately arrived in Chicago in the Pilsen neighborhood, where they joined Aniceta's parents who fled Europe because of WW II.
Ed became a U.S. citizen and integrated well into his new home. He attended De LaSalle Institute where he excelled as a science student. He subsequently went to the University of Illinois where he enrolled in a five-year architectural program. In his final year, he studied in Paris, writing his thesis on the Place des Vosges, the oldest planned square in Paris, originally constructed in 1612.
After graduating, Ed became a licensed architect. His work covered many fields, from residential to downtown Chicago office high rises. He received many awards for the high quality of his work.
He married Jaqui Salter and they had two children, Andrea and Jeff. Jaqui passed away after distinguishing herself as a published poet.
In 2007, Ed married attorney Kathy Wengel in a private ceremony in the Swiss Hotel. They travelled extensively throughout Europe, the United States and Belize. They subsequently retired and moved to Punta Gorda, Florida, where Ed realized his dream of golfing all year long and hitting a Hole-in-One!
Ed will be remembered as a kind and loving father and husband, having great creativity, work ethic and aesthetic taste. He loved music, particularly Jazz, Blues and Rock. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, brother, Frank (Cathy), children, Andrea and Jeff, stepson, Carl Loos, Sister-in-law, Judi McInerney (Tom), and his beloved Swiss cousins, Corinne Koli, and Elizabeth and Andre Claudon.
Ed passed on July 27, 2026. His cremains will be buried on August 28, in St. Casmir’s Cemetery on 111th and Pulaski, after a grave-side service. A Celebration of Life will take place in Punta Gorda in late September.
