Joseph Casimir

Joseph Casimir passed away Saturday, August 15, 2026. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to Steve Casimir and Mary Falussy on March 30, 1943. Joseph was raised in Big Indian, New York where his parents had a hotel, Casimir‘s Lodge, where he enjoyed his childhood being able to be outside playing and doing all the things little boys do. Being involved in this business, he learned to have work ethics and know how it was better to work hard and earn your way. He was a graduate of Onteora Central School class of 1960 where he established many lifelong friends. In 1963 he met Judy Merchant who became his wife on January 2, 1965. They had 61 wonderful years together, enjoying travel, golfing and spending time with friends and family. They moved to Punta Gorda in 2010 and have enjoyed living in the Sunshine State. He is survived by his wife, two brothers, A Stephen Casimir of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and George A Casimir of Murphy, Texas and many nieces and nephews, who were very much loved and a large part of his life. Visitation will take place at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Indian Springs Cemetery Rd. Punta Gorda, FL on August 25 from 5-7 PM. Funeral service will be at Sacred Heart Church, 211 W Charlotte Ave., Punta Gorda on August 26. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
