Nina Baxley

Jan 27, 1946 — Aug 30, 2026

Nina Louise Baxley, 80, of Palm City, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 30, 2026.

Born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, Nina later lived in Canton and Canal Fulton, Ohio, before moving to sunny Florida, where she resided in Port Charlotte and Palm City.

A devoted educator, Nina spent over 30 years as an elementary school teacher, raising a National Merit scholar, a 100-Ton Fishing Captain, and ultimately retiring from Harter Elementary School in Canton, Ohio. She shaped the minds and hearts of countless children with her patience, grace, and warmth. Outside the classroom, she was an avid card and board game player who loved playing Bridge and Sequence with friends and family. She was also incredibly talented with her hands, creating beautiful, lasting memories through her passion for crocheting.

Nina’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She is survived by her sister, Mary Fran Douglas, and brother, Phil Wiscott. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her two sons, Shane and Ryan; her stepdaughter, Tina; and her stepson, Craig. She was also the proud grandmother of Shane (II), Rylee, Morgan, Lauren, and Michael who will miss her dearly.

A viewing will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home (9393 Indian Springs Cemetery Rd, Punta Gorda, FL). A short memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM, followed immediately by a reception from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.

Following the reception, a processional will escort Nina to her final resting place, where she will be buried next to her beloved husband and veteran, Eugene Baxley, at Sarasota National Cemetery (7899 Saddle Creek Trail, Woodland Estates, FL). A short graveside service will take place there at 2:00 PM.

No words can express the impact my mother made on my brother and I as well as those blessed enough to have been taught by her. Mom, you will be sorely missed. Heaven now has one more angel!
