Tom D Pruitt

Jun 14, 1951 — Oct 26, 2026

Tom D. Pruitt, 75, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 26, 2026, in Port Charlotte, Florida. He was just beginning a new chapter, having recently moved to Florida, where he was excited about spending precious time with his grandkids.

He was born June 14, 1951, in Anderson, Indiana to Wayne and Bonnie Pruitt and was raised in Frankton, where he excelled as an athlete through his high school career. He made Anderson his home for most of his adult life, while serving 30 years with the United States Postal Service. When the workday ended, he pursued his passion of building and fixing things, often from a seemingly endless supply of projects provided by friends, family, and neighbors. He also served as song leader and Sunday School teacher at Eastside House of Prayer in Anderson.

Tom loved watching old Westerns and listening to bluegrass or Gospel music; however, his absolute favorite music was the music made by his own family! He loved being outside and took every opportunity he could to enjoy it. This led to many years of hunting and camping with friends and family…but never, ever fishing. Through the years, he also taught more than a few of his kids and grandkids how to play baseball. What his family will remember most, though, is how much he expressed his excitement for life through energetic greetings, sometimes-corny humor, loving support, and overall gratitude for time spent together.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa; his children, Kylie (Marc) Cruea, Kasie (Aaron) Hymes, Justin (Erin) Pruitt, Jason (Jamie) Barker, Thomas (Annie) Pruitt, and Tera (Mark) Simmons; fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his brother, Ted (Mitzi) Pruitt; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Bonnie Pruitt; sister Jill Pruitt; and sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and David Allen.

A private family viewing will be held in Florida. A memorial service will be held in Indiana at a later date with details to follow.
