Carey Douglas LaFoe

May 13, 1935 — April 26, 2026

Carey Douglas Lafoe, Sr., age 90, of Frankfort, KY, entered his eternal rest after a long and blessed life on Sunday, April 26, 2026. "Doug" was born on May 13, 1935, in Franklin County. He was the second oldest of five children born to the late John Jett Lafoe and Janie Perry.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Mary Louise Lafoe; two sons, Doug Lafoe Jr.

(Ann) and Tommy Lafoe (Jean); two grandchildren, Joshua Lafoe of Versailles and Allison Ballard (Cody) of Catonsville, MD; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Aurelie, Everett, Oliver, and Sawyer Ballard; and twelve step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lee Stocker (Bill) of Winchester, along with several nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his siblings John Thomas Lafoe, James William Lafoe and Betty Jane Martin.

A longtime member of Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene, Doug lived his faith through generosity, service, and kindness. He worked in the concrete and crushed stone industry for 41 years, retiring from Harrod Stone & Concrete in 2000. At Harrod Stone & Concrete, he became a trusted, essential part of the company's early success. He admired his employer, William R.

Harrod, and gave his very best every day.

After retiring he enjoyed several years of spending the winter at his condo in Largo, FL, he loved the sun and meeting new friends there. And he occasionally visited Anniston, AL to spend time with his favorite cousin Tommy Watkins. Staying caught up and crappie fishing the lakes there.

In his younger years, Doug loved boating and fishing, and he was well known among family and friends for his sharp wit, playful pranks, and tremendous sense of humor. Handy and mechanically gifted, he enjoyed restoring old items and bringing new life to things others had given up on. His hands built things, fixed things, and helped people. He was always ready to help-whether lending money to someone in need or repairing a family member's car. His heart guided his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith and kindness will continue to guide those he leaves behind. And his memory will remain a blessing to all who loved him.

He grew up in the close-knit community of Alton, Kentucky. He carried his hometown in his heart his entire life. He never tired of taking drives through Alton-checking on the old places, remembering the people, and honoring the roots that shaped him.

Above all, he loved his family deeply. His legacy of generosity, humor, and devotion will live on in the hearts of each of them. One thing that he passed down to his family was his love for making homemade ice cream. He rarely let a family gathering pass without a batch of freshly made banana ice cream. He was a stickler for doing it the old-fashioned way. He loved to get the youngsters involved in the hand-cranking process. And he loved seeing the smiles on their faces when their hard work was rewarded with a sweet and frosty bowl of goodness.

Serving as pallbearers will be Joshua LaFoe, Dan Thomas, Shawn Thomas, William Stocker, Kevin Barkley and Greg Fett.
