Deborah Ann Briggs
October 6, 1953 — May 19, 2026
Deborah Ann Ashbrook Briggs passed on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at the age of 72. She was born October 6, 1953, in Covington, Kentucky. She grew up in Florence on Grand Avenue down the street from her husband of 53 years, Lindsey Taylor Briggs. She graduated from Boone County High School in 1971, and began college at the University of Kentucky that fall majoring in Elementary Education. There she and Lindsey Briggs began dating and were married January 6, 1973. After graduation in 1974, she began her teaching career with Scott County Schools while living in Georgetown, Kentucky.
In 1977, they relocated to Paducah where she taught preschool at Reidland United Methodist Church until their sons, Matthew and Christopher, were born. While the boys were young, she continued her graduate work at Murray State University and once the boys were of school age she returned to teaching with Paducah Independent Schools. Upon Christopher’s high school graduation 1999, she and Lindsey came back to Georgetown where she returned to teach at Stamping Ground Elementary, where she had begun her first year. From there she retired and entered the best job ever…Nana.
She loved traveling with Lindsey as he made the best plans. Together they explored 48 states, twelve European countries, ten Canadian provinces, and islands in the Caribbean on a Windjammer sailing cruise. Many years were spent in Hilton Head enjoying the beach and great seafood with family. In retirement she enjoyed cooking, reading, journaling, sewing for her grands, and genealogy.
Debbie is survived by her loving husband, two sons Matthew Edward Briggs (Christina), and Christopher Taylor Briggs (Elizabeth). She leaves the “joy of her retirement” four grandchildren Reagan Annelise Briggs, Madison Tiffany Briggs, Delaney Taylor Briggs and Maddox Edward Briggs all of Lexington. Additionally, she is survived by sisters Kathleen Ritzi (Ed) of Falmouth, Karen Elliott of Crittenden, and Sandra Stanley of Inman, SC who is more sister than cousin, as well as one Uncle Keith Flanagan (Linda) of Nancy, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward “Sandy” and Eva Flanagan Ashbrook.
