Douglas Broaddus

Douglas W. Broaddus, 86, of Frankfort passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026 at Spring Arbor of Frankfort.

Born in Richmond, Kentucky, Doug was the son of the late James Coleman and Nora Kelley Broaddus.

Doug began his career in 1956 as a stock boy for F.W. Woolworth Company in Ohio. Through his years of dedication and hard work, he advanced to management positions at various Woolworth locations before eventually settling in Frankfort, which became his beloved home.

At the Woolworth store in Frankfort, Doug met Judy Clark who would later become his wife and mother of his two children.

Throughout his career, Doug was in management positions at Kmart in Frankfort and Lexington, and was District Manager and Regional Coordinator for Convenient, Dairy Mart, and Circle K convenience stores. Doug also proudly served in the Army Reserve at Fort Knox.

Following his retirement in 2005, Doug became a self-taught financial analyst and spent hours of each day perfecting his trade. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and love for his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Doug was proceeded in death by his wife, Judith C. Broaddus of Frankfort, and his sister, Imogene Broaddus Perkins of Richmond.

He is survived by his son, Christopher W. Broaddus (Lisa), of Frankfort, his daughter, Cynthia A. Smith (Scott), of Shelbyville, his four cherished grandchildren who he loved tremendously, and spoke of proudly at any chance he could get, Coleman Jacob Broaddus, of Louisville, Caleb Luke Broaddus, of Frankfort, Shelby Smith Sheets (Joseph), of Lawrenceburg, and Shayna Brianne Smith, of Shelbyville, his sister, Sue Broaddus Elswick of Burgin, his brother, Johnnie Dale Broaddus (Barbara), of Florida, his bonus grandchildren and bonus great-grandchildren, Ashley Coulter (Daniel), of Taylorsville, Amber Smith of Shelbyville, Anndrea Breen (David), of Bagdad, Case, Tinley, Rylan and Rhett, along with many nieces and nephews.

Doug will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 30 from 10AM – 12PM at Clark Legacy Funeral Home in Frankfort. A private burial will be held at a later date.
