James Michael Harney

James Michael Harney slipped away to his forever home on the morning of October 11, 2025, after a long struggle with cancer.  Mike was born to James and Betty (Quire) Harney on Feb. 7, 1954, their third child and only son. He attended Bridgeport Elementary School and graduated from FCHS in 1972.  He later worked for Federal Express in Atlanta, Georgia, for 20-plus years and returned to Frankfort upon retirement. Mike enjoyed playing bridge, handicapping the horses, and attending auctions. He was a gentle and generous soul, and he will be missed.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by four sisters, Lucinda Spangler, Joan Allen, Jill Nethery, and Jennifer Harney.  

A special thanks to the hospice workers who were so helpful to him and his family these past few weeks. And a big hug of gratitude to caregivers Nanette, Darlene, Kay, Jan, Debbie, and Tina. You’re the best!  

Clark Legacy Center will handle cremation. Services will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Bluegrass Care Navigators, 643 Teton Trail, in Frankfort are suggested.
