Joel Travis Hurst

Mr. Joel Travis Hurst, 46, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2026. He was born on November 18, 1979 in Middlesboro, Kentucky to Lena Hurst and the late Neal G. Stigall Blackburn. Joel was loved by all who knew him and he met no strangers. He attended Frankfort High School and later acquired his GED degree.

He was preceded in death by his father, Neal Gordon Stigall. He leaves to cherish his memory his dear loving mother, Lena Hurst, his son, Joel Travis Hurst Jr. (mom Denise Duerson) and his daughter Genesis Hurst as well as her mom, his significant other, Julia Colston and her children Addilyn Taylor and Dominick Taylor and Ashton Colston. He also leaves his dear siblings whom he was extremely close to His sisters, Peaches Young, Kendra Watson & Ketina Stigall. His brothers Chris Hurst & Jarrod Braden (Jenna Braden). And nieces and nephews whom he LOVED & adored: Malcom, Amira, Aniya, Allana, Tre, Kaden, Jarius, Jeslyn, NaLeah, Emmanuel, Malachi, Nalani, Sonnie Belle, Sieanna, Remi, Cairo, Savion, Navani, Araya, Lacee, Lincoln, & a host of close Uncles especially James "Uncle Pop" Rancher, JB "Uncle June" Rancher & more his Aunties Pam, Rosie, & so many more as well as some of his close hanging cousins Jr, Jack, Rochadd, Neecy, and SOOOOOO many other family members far and wide.

To honor Joel's life, a memorial service will take place on Saturday August 22nd at 12pm at First Baptist church, 100 Clinton St, Frankfort, Ky 40601. Please contact the church for donations if desiring to donate towards the repass, flowers/plants, & the "purple/gold" balloon release ceremony which will follow immediately after services on Saturday.
