Lorraine Ward Prater

Lorraine Ward Prater, 87, widow of Oliver Prater, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026. She was born in Auxier, Kentucky on August 24, 1938 to the late Walter and Elizabeth Moore Ward. Lorraine worked as a dental assistant and owned and operated Prater's Middle Creek Market with her husband for many years. She was a longtime employee of Rite Aid in Frankfort. She loved playing games on her phone and iPad, babysitting her granddogs, doing crafts, canning, gardening, cooking and baking for her family and publishing her own cookbook.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Hubbard (Tim), Frankfort, KY; grandson Zack Hubbard (Amanda), Lexington, KY, son Tim Mathis (Ann) Mayfield, KY, her brother, Eddie Ward (Delores), Paintsville; and her step-grandson, Adam Prater (Misti), Winona Lake, IN.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Goodman, her brother, Chuck Ward and her stepdaughter Linda R. Prater.

Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until 3:00pm on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd., Frankfort and Visitation will be held from 1:00pm until 3:00pm on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Highland Memorial Park Chapel in Staffordsville, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Franklin County Food Pantry, Lifehouse for Animals, or to the Middle Creek Community Development and Food Pantry.
