Marilyn Sue Goodwin Monroe

Marilyn Sue Goodwin Monroe, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. She was born on December 5, 1940, in Shelbyville, Kentucky to parents J.W. Goodwin and Christine Richardson Goodwin. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband James “Jim” R. Monroe, her son, James William Ware; sisters, Shirley Kinker, Sheila Goodwin, and Henrietta Offutt; her brother, Billy Goodwin; and one great grandson.

She is survived by her children, Roxane Wilson (Danny), Keith Ware, and Iva Monroe; siblings, Mary Jo Perry (Ralph), Judy Shelburne (C.T.) and David Goodwin. In addition to her children and siblings, Sue leaves and was loved by 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and an abundance of great-great grandchildren. 

In her leisure, she loved watching wrestling, going to Bingo, and was an avid UK fan. Her legacy lives on in the gardens she planted, the recipes she passed down, and the moments of laughter and love shared at her table. She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, and all who were lucky enough to call her family.

A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant something beautiful in her honor.
