Paul Patrick Canty
Jun 4, 1956 — Aug 10, 2026
Paul Patrick Canty, 70, passed away peacefully August 10, 2026. Raised in Woodford Co., Paul was a University of Kentucky graduate who farmed his family’s land for most of his life. While he preferred solitude, he had no shortage of friends and was known for his kindness, ingenuity and generosity. Family will remember him for his appreciation of the simplicities of life, his mischievous curiosity, and most importantly his dedication to those he loved, especially his parents, whom he is now reunited with in heaven. Later in life, Paul developed bonds with his caregivers who remained by his side throughout his final days.
He’s preceded by his father, Edward Patrick Canty; mother, Doris Smith Canty; and brother, David Sean Canty. He’s survived by one daughter, Shawn Hicks (Chris) and two granddaughters; brother, Michael Canty; sister, Mary Hall (Bill); nieces, Elizabeth Cox (John), Victoria Hall and Alexandra Hall; one grandnephew; and life long friend, Shelly Young (Jack).
The family would like to thank the care providers and staff of The Lantern at Morning Point, Bluegrass Hospice Care and Cornerstone Caregivers for providing exceptional care to Paul throughout his final years. Your dedication to his happiness and comfort was invaluable and it’s with happiness that we can say that Paul loved you all just as much as you loved him.
In spirit of the kindness and generosity he exhibited to others throughout his life, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, you offer acts of kindness to those in need as a way to carry on Paul’s memory.
A memorial lunch will be hosted for caregivers. Family will attend a memorial mass at St. Leo Catholic Church in Versailles, Kentucky at a later date.
