Aubrey Edmund Cashman

Aubrey Edmund Cashman passed peacefully at home in the presence of family on July 18. Rest in peace. He was born to the late Daniel and Mary Edith Cashman in Belfast, Northern Ireland on June 10th, 1934. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Brigid (Cepta) Cashman, and his four children Siobhan Pritchard, Donal Cashman (Sydney), Maire Patino (Nacho) and Deirdre Haddix (Rod) and eight grandchildren: Shane, Ellie, Bri, Anna, Meaghan, William, Vera and Hollis. He was predeceased by his brother Donal Cashman of Belfast. He is also survived by his brother Patrick (Paddy) and sister-in-law Susan Cashman of Belfast. After receiving his engineering education in Belfast he travelled to Canada and subsequently immigrated to the United States where he served his country in the U.S. Army’s 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade in a helicopter unit from 1958 to 1960. Aubrey’s love for the United States led him to become a proud U.S. citizen after leaving the Army. Aubrey moved to Cleveland where he met and married his future wife. A new job in the aerospace industry allowed them to relocate to New Orleans. Aubrey and Cepta settled in Lexington with IBM and raised their four children. Aubrey’s passion for soccer led him to help start the Lexington Youth Soccer Association (LYSA). He served as a coach, mentor and most recently as a referee until 2016. Aubrey was a devout and active member of both the St. Joseph Hospital Chapel and the Lexington Newman Center. In his retirement he wintered in Venice, Florida where he enjoyed the company of many friends and soaks in his beloved hot tub after a “vigorous” 3 laps around the pool. Aubrey fought a courageous battle against cancer and the family wishes to thank Drs. Horn, Amin and Houghton and staff, Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice, especially Tiffany and team, as well as, night sitter Joanna Chinn. Memorials are suggested to Bluegrass Care Navigators, God’s Pantry or the Catholic Action Center. Aubrey’s funeral service will be on Monday, July 30th at 4pm at Pax Christi Catholic Church. The inurnment takes place at the Columbarium in the Pax Christi Peace Garden immediately following the service.
