Barkley Mae Hord Garrison

Barkley Mae Hord Garrison, 97, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2019. Barkley was born on January 24, 1922. She was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, R.W. “Twister” Garrison. Raised in Campbellsville, KY, she and Twister made Frankfort, KY their home for many years and were faithful members of Buck Run Baptist Church and Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church. Barkley is survived by her brother, John Porter (Jack) Hord and his wife, Cyndi of Crossville, TN. She is also survived by her daughter, Fran Garrison Strickler, of Plainfield, IN and her grandchildren, Kelli Summers Sorg (Dean), Headquarters, KY, Scott Summers (Amanda), Petersburg, KY and Brooke Summers-Perry (Eric), Houston, TX. Barkley is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Barkley’s life is testament to love and laughter, hope and faith. All who knew her knew her kind and gentle spirit, her laughter and love of a good, clever joke and her love for Twister and her family. Her faith in the love of Christ and the power of prayer is a legacy she has passed on to her family and friends. All who knew ‘Baucky’ knew she gave us more than 97 years of showing us all how to love, smile, dance, laugh, and practice patience and kindness like our souls were put here to do just that. Visitation for family and friends will be at 10 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church, Duckers Road, Midway, KY. A service of homegoing will follow at 12 noon led by the Reverend Todd Lester with a graveside service immediately following at Brookside Cemetery, Campbellsville, KY. Pallbearers will be: Scott Summers, grandson, Chase Summers-Perry, Link Summers-Perry and Mark Harlow, great-grandsons, Don Shaw, Barkley’s cousin and Dusty Rhodes, a treasured family friend. The family is grateful for the loving care of their friends, of Heart to Heart Hospice and The Gathering Together, the hospice facility that made Barkley’s homegoing comfortable.
