Betty Joy Newman

Betty “Joy” Williamson Newman, 88, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026.

Joy was born on January 29, 1938, in Carrabelle, Florida, to Bud and Lila Williamson. She grew up in Port St. Joe, Florida, where she developed a lifelong love for the beach and the simple pleasures of coastal living.

Joy was first married to Wally Borden, and together they welcomed two children, Dale and Suzanne (Suzy). She later married Robert Newman, with whom she shared many wonderful years of marriage and family.

For many years, Joy worked at Kinnard and Francke Interiors, where her natural eye for beauty, style, and detail served her well. She was a devoted member of the Catholic Church, and her faith remained an important part of her life.

Joy found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved to cook, enjoyed traveling, and was an avid reader who was rarely without a book nearby. She valued the friendships she built throughout her life, especially her extraordinary bond with the Davis family, whom she loved and considered an extension of her own family. Their friendship held a special place in her heart.

Above all, Joy cherished her family and the time they spent together. She will be remembered for the love she shared, the memories she created, and the special place she held in the lives of those who knew her. Her name was a fitting reflection of the happiness she brought to others.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Lila Williamson; her first husband, Wally Borden; her brother, Carl Williamson; and her sisters, Lou-Ann Gaskin and Kathy Killorin.

She is survived by her husband of [number] years, Robert Newman; her children, Dale Borden, Suzanne Borden (Dan), and Alex Newman (Elisabeth); her six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
