She was born June 1, 1920 in Sandy Hook, KY, the youngest daughter of Mary Bandy Evans Manning and Elmer Voloney Manning. Beulah was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Vernon Manning, Edna Manning Gilbert, Maude Manning Clay, and Gertrude Manning Howard. A graduate of Sandy Hook High School, she attended Morehead State University before becoming Clerk of the Rowan County draft board during WWII. Beulah, a certified cosmetologist, owned and operated cosmetology schools in Winchester, Richmond, and Lexington. She is fondly remembered as a wonderful (but firm) teacher, caring mentor, and businesswoman by her many students. Beulah was Kentucky State Inspector of Barber and Beauty Shops. Beulah was married to the late Tom Stratton of Lawrenceburg, KY, who died in July, 1991. Beulah and Al Strauss, of Lexington, were married February 28, 1992. Mr. Strauss died November 22, 2012. Surviving nieces are Patricia Clay Cole-Kitze, Marianna Clay James, Marjorie Howard Argo, Miriam Gilbert Burchett, and many grand-nieces and nephews. Funeral Information No services are planned.
