FRANKFORT – Brigadier General Larry C. Barker (Ret.), 81, husband of Pamela Busse Barker, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018. He was born in Franklin County, Kentucky to the late Thomas L. Barker and Lilly Williams Barker on August 30, 1936.
He was commissioned through the Kentucky Military Academy on January 7, 1962. He served as an enlisted soldier in the Kentucky Army National Guard from February 14, 1955 through January 6, 1962. He was promoted to Brigadier General on May 15, 1991. He retired from military service with 39 years and 4 months of total service.
General Barker was a member of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church and was an affiliate of Birdwhistle Realty & Auction Company.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Glenn Barker, Lawrenceburg; grandchildren Whitney Ryan Mathers, Rachel Barker, and Zach and Ben Journey. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Barker, sister Mary Lee Birdwhistle and brother Thomas Barker Jr.
He was a great husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was a great servant of his Lord and his country. He will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 13, 2018, at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Lester and Chaplin (LTC) Bill Draper officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at the church. Serving as casket bearers will be Ronnie Hudnall, Nelson Hicks, Jerry Briscoe, Rami Kalla, Harold Reynolds and Mike Cunningham. Honorary casket bearers will be Ray Lovitt, Cleveland White and Donnie Allison. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kentucky National Guard Memorial Fund.
