Charlie Glenmore Hughes Jr., husband of LaVece Ganter Hughes, 74, passed away Sunday, April 1 , 2018. He was born in Lexington, KY on February 29, 1944 to the late Charlie Glenmore Hughes, Sr. and Elizabeth Cecil Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a veteran of the Army National Guard a member of Crestwood Christian Church. Charlie was a graduate of Transylvania University and had a masters degree from the University of Kentucky where he worked for 30 years as a chemist/toxicologist for the the Tobacco and Health Institute and Gluck Equine Center. He created Wind Publications to publish the poetry and writings of Kentucky authors. He was awarded the Governor's Arts Media Award in 2008 for his Wind Publication website for KY writers and poets. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hughes is survived by his sons Charlie G. (Susan) Hughes, III "Chip"; Edward Ganter ( Jennifer) Hughes; and Matthew Ganter Hughes; his sister Cecilia Grugin; and his grandchildren Grace and Luke Hughes; Bella and Ozzy Hughes. A celebration of life will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing. Trish Standifur will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will follow from 4:30pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers. memorial donations may be made to Disciples for Habitat.
