Clyde Eugene Zoph, Sr.

Apr 3, 1945 — Jul 26, 2026

Clyde Eugene Zoph, Sr., 81, widower of Betty Zoph, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in Richmond, Kentucky.

Born on April 3, 1945, in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, Clyde was the son of the late Lincoln Zoph and Mildred Mercer. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a service that remained a meaningful part of his life.

For many years, Clyde worked as a mechanic for the Orlando, Florida School Bus Garage, where he was known for his strong work ethic and ability to fix just about anything. Outside of work, he found great joy in the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish. Clyde spent countless hours in the woods and on the water. In his younger years, his hunting and fishing skills helped put food on the family’s table, providing not only for their needs but creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Clyde was a devoted grandfather who treasured every opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren. Nothing brought him more joy than being surrounded by his family. He was also a Florida Gators fan and enjoyed the chance to cheer them on.

In later years, Clyde became deeply involved with Moose Lodge #2686 in Nicholasville, Kentucky. The Moose Lodge wasn’t just an organization to him—it was a place where he enjoyed fellowship, laughter, and the company of many dear friends.

Clyde shared a special bond with his son-in-law, Ron, whose friendship meant a great deal to him. He was also the proud owner of two beloved dachshunds, Little Red and Sassy. His family often joked that those two dogs had somehow worked their way to the very top of his heart—a joke Clyde would probably have smiled and agreed with.

He is survived by his children: Clyde (Jackie Deering) Zoph, Jr. of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; Teresa (Ron) Pietosi of Nicholasville, Kentucky; Kevin (Maricela) Zoph of Daytona Beach, Florida; and Matthew (Tiffanie) Zoph of Mississippi. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Aaron, Ryan, Felicia, Zander, and Cheyenne; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sue and Ethel.

In addition to his beloved wife, Betty, Clyde was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Bob Zoph.

Clyde will be remembered as a proud veteran, a hardworking mechanic, an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, a devoted grandfather, a loyal friend, and a man who found joy in the simple things—time with family, fellowship with friends, cheering on the Gators, and the faithful companionship of his two little dachshunds. His memory will live on in the many lives he touched and in the stories that will continue to be shared for generations.

A Memorial Service will be 1pm Friday, August 7, 2026 at Clark Legacy Center, 601 East Brannon Rd, Nicholasville, KY 40356. followed by a graveside service at 2:30pm at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.  A reception will be 4pm-6pm at the funeral home.
