Curtis Edward Savage

It can genuinely be said that Curt never met a stranger. He loved swapping stories, having a beer with friends, and talking about how proud he was of his family. One person he never failed to mention was his wife, Madge (Lilley) Savage. They married in 1957 in Ellicot, Maryland. He called her “his beautiful bride” and “the love of his life.” Curt came from humble beginnings born (September 15, 1934) and raised in Garrett County, Maryland. He graduated from Accident High School in 1952. He rejoiced in returning every year for his high school reunion, held above the town’s fire station. His favorite hang out was the Hazard garage where there was always a bad cup of coffee and a good conversation. His love of country was exemplified by his service in the United States Army. Curt served as a medic from 1957-1959 in Bamberg, Germany. Curt was a member of the American Legion Post 67 in Versailles, Kentucky. He particularly liked talking with some of the older veterans about their experiences in World War II. Curt’s interest in the events of WWII that shaped his early years was a source of particular interest for Curt and Madge; they enjoyed reading books, watching movies and documentaries, and visiting historical sites when they visited Europe. Curt was also passionate about his career. He began as a salesman for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in 1959 in Ohio. He took great pride in providing a quality product and quality service to his customers. Curt and Madge moved to Versailles, Kentucky in 1972 and Curt became general manager and then part-owner/President of Commonwealth Tire/Multi-Mile. Their four children graduated from Woodford County High School: Michael Savage (deceased, wife Elizabeth), Jeff Savage (wife Melissa), Carol Savage Yankey (husband Scott), and John Savage (wife Lisa). Their time in Versailles and later Lexington was spent with great friends and neighbors in Sycamore Estates and Ashland Park. Curt was also dedicated to his 9 grandchildren: Lauren Savage, Leah Savage, Will Yankey, Jenny Yankey Willis (husband Frank), Ashley Savage (husband Fred), Jack Curtis Savage, Annabelle Savage, Lilly Savage and Jonah Savage and his 5 great grandchildren: Mabel, Frankie, Otto, Olivia, and Naomi. After they raised their kids Curt and Madge travelled. Some of their favorite trips included: Norway and England, the Grand Caymans with Will and Jenny, travelling across Canada by train with Mike and Shirley Jordon, as well as a wonderful week in South Carolina at the beach with all of the kids in 2006. Curt also loved Midway, Kentucky. He and Madge moved to Midway in 2005. Curt would say it’s the “greatest little town anywhere.” He recounted many stories of the neighbors and friends he would see around town. Curt was a supporter of the Republican Party and a firm believer in President Trump. Curt’s sister Wilda Ann Boyce and her husband Bob live in Akron, Ohio and Curt was preceded in death by his brother Jim Savage. Come swap a story and hoist a beer in Curt’s memory.
