Danny Wilkerson

Danny Elwood Wilkerson was born in Valdosta, GA, on July 13, 1955, and moved with his family to Lexington, KY, while in the fifth grade. During his senior year of high school, Danny led the Tates Creek football team to a statewide championship as MVP. Athletics would remain an important part of Danny’s life, whether as a player or a spectator, and he made many lifelong friends both on and off the field. After high school he worked with his dad at Wilkerson’s Monuments on West Main Street. 

He later opened his own business on West Third Street creating beautiful works in stone, granite, gold leaf, and etched glass. His excellent work is on display throughout Central Kentucky. In addition to his artistic talents, Danny had a legendary sense of humor, a rapport with dogs and animals, and a keen love of what would later be called “classic rock”. 

Notably, he never turned down an opportunity for adventure. All who knew him were touched by his warm and vivacious spirit. We loved to hear his stories and to share his stories, and will continue to do so. Danny was larger than life, loved by all his family and friends, and will be greatly missed! Danny died peacefully from pneumonia with family by his side on September 26, 2026 in Fort Pierce, FL. He is survived by brothers Ron Wilkerson (Mona), Eddie Wilkerson, sister Karen Byron (Russ), and a host of nieces and nephews.
