Derek James Vye

Lexington, Kentucky Derek James Vye, 46, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013. He was born to Delbert and Evelyn Vye in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada on September 20, 1967. During his childhood years, Derek was an avid sports player with a passion for football and hockey. He originally moved to Texas and for nearly twenty years called Lexington, KY his home. Derek's passion for hockey continued as his hobby during his adult life, as well as participating in the Lake Cumberland Poker Runs and golfing with his buddies. He was an avid UK, Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Redskins fan. Derek was passionate about all sports and enjoyed watching games surrounded by people he loved. While residing in Lexington, Derek met his fiance Angela Hollearn and daughter Jordan Roberts. His Canadian accent, the charm of his smile and his pride for his homeland were a huge reason why he was so loved. Derek's zest for life could light up a room with his unique sense of humor and blooming laughter. Derek was employed by the University of Kentucky, origionally working for the Medical Center and eventually transferring to UK's Real Properties Division. Derek's talent and abilities enabled him to be a jack-of-all-trades around the house for family and friends; he was always willing to help with anything. The lasting impact of Derek's great personality lives on through his fiance Angela and daughter Jordan. Their lives are forever enriched by Derek's kindness and good spirit. Derek is survived by his parents Delbert and Evelyn Vye, fiance Angela Hollearn and daughter Jordan Lauren Roberts, sister Poly Ann (Frank) Possebon, brothers Dennis (Mary Ann) Vye, Fred Vye and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information A gathering of family friends will be held from 4-7 pm. Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing with a service to follow. Father Norman Fischer will be conducting the service. Additional services and interment will be held at a later date in Canada.
