Dorothy Hardin Smith, devoted and loving wife of Marvin Russell Smith for over 68 years, passed away Friday October 16, 2015 at Harrodsburg Rehabilitation Center in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.
Dorothy, 86, known affectionately as Dot, was born in Jessamine County, Kentucky on January 8, 1929, one of two daughters of Thelma and Walter Hardin. Dorothy was predeceased by both of her parents.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Smith is survived by her six sons: Kenneth (Nancy), Richlands, NC; Daryl (Lucia), San Sebastiano, Italy; Tony (Susan), Tim (Deborah), Steven, and Charles (Paula), all of Frankfort; her sister: Jean Waller, High Bridge, KY.
Mrs. Smith is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Rome Ames, Alex Smith, Richlands, NC; Jessica (Frederico) Canuto, Milan, Italy; Sameria Poston, Cocoa FL, and Damon (April) Combs; Kymberli Smith, and ShaCody Smith, Frankfort; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Smith graduated from Wilmore High School and later studied nursing at Midway College. In addition to being a homemaker and mother to six sons, she worked as a nurse for Dr. Murvel Blair for over 20 years and served as a personal caregiver for many years. She also enjoyed quilting and reading.
Funeral Information
An informal celebration of life for Mrs. Smith will be held at a later date following interment of cremated remains at Camp Nelson Cemetery in Jessamine County.
