George South Gregory, 81, husband of Martha Gregory died on Friday, July 5, 2019 in Nicholasville, KY. He was born on June 15, 1938 to the late George and Elizabeth Gregory. George was a veteran of the United States Army and was fortunate to have several careers including early work as a law enforcement officer in Woodford County and as a faculty member at Midway College. He also was a tennis instructor at the University of Louisville. He ended his career with the National Park Service, where he was a resource manager and tour guide. He worked for the National Park Service in several states including Maine, Massachusetts, Florida and Kentucky. He retired from Mammoth Cave National Park in 2002 where he worked as a liaison to the Cave Research Foundation and was instrumental in getting the park designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He is survived by his wife Martha Anderson Gregory; his son, Christopher (Jenny) Gregory, Nicholasville, KY; and daughter, Lauren Gregory (Scot) Cottingham, Versailles, KY; three granddaughters, Caitlin, Emery and Anna Cottingham; two grandsons, Dylan and Kyler Gregory; one sister, Julia Gregory (Billy) Mitchell, Lexington, KY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Woodford Humane Society. No services are planned. clarklegacycenter.com
