Online Obituaries for Lexington and Nicholasville, KY A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 28 at 6 p.m. at the Providence Christian Church in Nicholasville for Gloria Rowe Whitt, 72, of Nicholasville, formerly of Pikeville, who passed away Monday, April 24 at Baptist Healthcare in Lexington. Gloria was born February 27, 1945 to Ollie and Mary Louise Rowe Ramsey in Pikeville. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher Lee Whitt and a beloved granddaughter, Shaina Leigh Whitt. She is survived by her husband Ertel L. Whitt Jr.; a son, Shane (Tina) Whitt of Richmond; a daughter, Paula (Steven) Halm of Hagerhill; a grandson, Ethan Halm; two granddaughters, Avery Halm and Emma Whitt; cousins, nieces and more friends that can be counted. Gloria had an infectious smile and a trademark laugh. She married the love of her life and soulmate after meeting on a blind date at the age of 17 to Ertel and they shared 54 years together. Gloria graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA in education and continued her education at Morehead State University receiving a masters degree in English. She went on to teach fifth grade in Flatwoods and finished her career in administration at Prestonsburg Community College, Pikeville Campus. She was a current member of the Providence Christian Church in Nicholasville. Gloria enjoyed the friendliness of that congregation and was active in the Womens Fellowship Group. She loved her church and loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Glorias Celebration of Life will be officiated by Carol Devine, minister of the Providence Christian Church. Following a memorial service at a later date, her ashes will be interred at Johnson Memorial Cemetery in Pikeville. Funeral Information A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, April 28 at 6 p.m. at the Providence Christian Church in Nicholasville, officiated by Carol Devine. Her ashes will be interred at Johnson Memorial Cemetery in Pikeville at a later date.
