Harriet Fowler-Mobley

Harriet W. Fowler Mobley, age 73 of Nicholasville, KY, died on October 4, 2019 after a short battle with Glioblastoma. She was the Widow of John M. Mobley who predeceased her. Harriet was born in Geneva NY to the late William D. and Margaret M. Fowler of Ithaca NY. She grew up in St. Joseph Michigan, and attended Smith College and Cornell University where she received her Bachelor of Arts cum laude and her Ph.D. in Art History. She was the Curator of the University of Kentucky Art Museum from 1981 – 1990 and became Director in 1991. Following her retirement from UK in 2001 she became Editor of The Claymore Magazine, the International and Official Newsletter of the Scottish Deerhound Club of America. Throughout her life Harriet’s writings were published extensively including in The New Yorker, Fine Cooking, and The Keeneland Magazine. Harriet was also active in a number of Kentucky Arts Organizations including being appointed by Former Governor Martha Layne Collins to The Historic Properties Commission. She was preceded in death by a brother Ryan Fowler. She is survived by a daughter Elizabeth Mullaney and son in law Alan McGowan; a brother Douglas Fowler (Nancy Green); a sister Ann Fowler, as well as a step daughter Kathy Farmer (Claude Moochie Farmer); three step grandchildren, Justin Farmer (Carolyn Farmer), Ashley Farmer, and Kelly Barnett (Tyson Barnett), and numerous in-laws, cousins, and extended family. A celebration of life is planned on Saturday, October 19, 2019 1pm at Clark Legacy Center Brannon Crossing in Nicholasville, KY followed by a Gathering until 4pm.
