James W. Hancock

James W. Hancock, 87, of Nicholasville, KY, husband of Diane, departed this life on February 27, 2018 after a long illness. He was born August 24, 1930 in Lexington, KY, to James W. and Mary Lee Hancock. Jim served in the Armed Forces as First Lieutenant from 1953-1955 and ended his service in Korea as platoon leader. He served his Lord in many capacities: as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and on various church committees. Jim taught school at Bourbon County High School and was counselor at Lafayette High School in Lexington, KY and Harrison County High School in Cynthiana, KY. He is survived by Diane, his wife of 55 years, and their daughter Christy Zettler and husband Paul, two grandchildren, Lauren Logan and husband Mark, and Amy Zettler, sister-in-law Jean Hancock, nieces Dawn Hancock and Judy Hancock McSwain and husband Les. Great-nieces Sara, Rachel and Hanna McSwain. Jim had one sibling, Williard Hancock and one nephew, Rob Hancock who preceded him in death. Visitation will be 4-6PM, Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Clark Legacy Center in Brannon Crossing, followed by a service at 6PM. with Pastor Carl Peters officiating. Interment will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery at 11AM, Friday, March 2, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either/or Anchor Baptist Church, Lexington, KY, or Bluegrass Hospice Care, Lexington, KY.
