James Arthur Hughes, 67, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on July 6, 2016.
James was born in Pikeville, KY on March 21, 1949. He graduated from Prestonsburg High School and continued on to receive a Bachelor's of Business Administration Degree from Morehead State University.
James was married to Cynthia Hughes (Scott) on March 11, 1983; they were married 33 years.
James was the manager of the fondly remembered Hobbs Dime Store, like his father. He was mentored by a trusting business leader and began the business of developing land and shopping centers. He worked as a commercial developer from 1976 until he retired in 2012. He enjoyed fishing, birdwatching, photography, working puzzles, and playing with his grandchildren. He was actively involved at Southland Christian Church and most recently at Church of the Savior.
James is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia; son, Tyler (Kathryn) Hughes; daughter, Jahde Hughes; brother, Robert (Joyce) Hughes; grandchildren, Ella and Simon; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Glyn Arthur Hughes and Fayetta Wells Hughes.
Funeral Information
The celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM on July 9, 2016 at Clark Legacy Center - Brannon Crossing. A gathering of family and friends will be held prior to the service from 12:00-2:00 PM.
