James R. McCormick 76, passed peacefully January 8, 2017 with his wife of 46 years, Linda McCormick, by his side. Jim was born July 1, 1940 in New Martinsville, WV to the late Ken and Thelma McCormick. He is also survived by his children, Mike Goetz of Lexington, KY and Dianna Vaught of Boynton Beach, FL; his grandson Brandon Vaught (Jessica Calvis) of Boynton Beach, FL; and great grandson Brooks Vaught of Boynton Beach, FL; a sister, Connie (Raymond) Vandiver of Hendersonville, TN; and the mother of his children, Nancy Goetz.
Jim graduated from Magnolia High School in 1958. He then went to Greenbrier Military School for one year before going to West Virginia University where he played basketball for 4 years. After graduation he was drafted by the Cincinnati Royals. He was injured before he could play a regular season game. Jim has been inducted into 3 Hall of Fames; Magnolia High, WVU, and OVAC.
He worked for the Department of Education Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for 25 years. After retiring, he worked part time for the Kroger Co. He was a member of Hill N Dale Christian Church.
Funeral Information
A Funeral Service will be held 5pm, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing with Chaplin Ken Jones officiating. A visitation will be held prior to service on Wednesday from 3-5pm. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in New Martinsville, WV.
