James W.D. Stone

J. W. D. “Dan” Stone, 72, passed away on November 15, 2025 in Lexington. He was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on March 26, 1953 to the late Milton Daniel and Barbara Messer Stone. He was an artist and poet.

He was a child in St. Petersburg, FL a preteen and teen in Paris and Georgetown, KY. He spent his adult years in Chartres, France finally settling in Lexington, KY where he painted landscapes, friends and imaginings in his inimitable style.

He was a collector of all that he loved from art to books to music. He beheld, read and listened to all that he owned. He loved the written word and likely took every English literature class offered at Western Kentucky University, Georgetown College and the University of Kentucky.

He succumbed to illness in short order and leaves behind those who loved him.

He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Stone Anderson, of Cadiz, KY and Nancy Stone Taylor, of Princeton, KY.
