John Claude Balk, 89, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016. Married 69 frac12; years to Mrs. Dorothy James Balk, John was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, August 5, 1927 to the late John and Karla Peterson Balk. A U.S. Navy Veteran and Kentucky Colonel, Mr. Balk was very involved in the community serving as Past Director of Boy Scout Camp and Past Chairman of The Society of Manufacturing Engineers. That service continued well into his 80s. In addition to Johns passion for service toward community and country, he enjoyed both golfing and fishing. Mr. Balk had a long career as a Manufacturing Engineer with IBM, retiring in 1989 after 24 years of employment.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy, John is survived by his sons, Kent (Teresa) Balk, Wilmore, and Steven (Toni) Balk, Naples, FL; grandchildren, Christy Banks, Steven Balk, Jr, Troy Balk, Karla Balk, Tiffany Burns, and Nathan Balk; and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral Information
A Funeral Mass will be held 9:30am, Monday, December 19, 2016 at St. Luke Catholic Church, Nicholasville, with inurnment to follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, officiated by Father Bush. There will be a visitation from 6:00 8:00pm on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing.
