Luther Clark, Sr., 93, died on October 13 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Luther was born and raised in Franklin County, Kentucky. He graduated from Elkhorn High School and then entered the U. S. Navy following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Luther served in the Pacific as a signalman first class on the U.S.S. Sandoval and earned the Purple Heart and bronze star medals. He constructed many homes in the Frankfort area and later worked for Louis and Henry Architects as a building inspector. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Herman and Mattie Calvert Clark, and his wife of 70 years, Jean Doris Mitchell Clark; also, one brother, John Robert Clark, and 7 sisters-Sally Cosart, Laura Lee, Katherine Carter, Ruth Botkins, Mae Wagner, Ruby Burch and Aileen Clark. Daughter Amy Lynn Clark also preceded the death of her father, Luther.
Survivors of Mr. Clark are three children: son Luther (Sonny) Clark, Jr. (Pauline) of Frankfort; daughter Verona (Ronnie) Dunn (Wayne) of Frankfort, and daughter Rebecca (Becky) Rogers (Dennis) of Canton, Georgia; eight grandchildren: Gretchen Goodman (Mike) of Danville, KY; Jason Dunn (Kris) of Frankfort; Eric Clark (Holly) of Louisville; Daniel Clark of Frankfort; Gabriel Giles (Christy) of Frankfort; Sarah Vaughn (Michael) of Canton, Georgia; Jennifer York (Bill) of Auburn, Alabama; and Jacob Rogers of Miami, Florida; sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Masonic Home of Shelbyville, Frankfort Regional Medical Center and Hospice of the Bluegrass for the compassionate care provided to Mr. Clark.
Funeral Information
Visitation will be held at Clark Legacy Center on Friday October 16, 2015, from 12:00pm-2:30pm , followed by services at 2:30pm. A military burial will be observed at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
