Margaret Ann Sherman

Margaret Ann "Marge" Sherman left this life on July 14, 2026, just three weeks short of her 95th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents Fern and Oliver Willen; her sister, Georgetta Feil; her husbands, Frederick Henry Kuhlmann in 1958, and Philip George Sherman in 2017; by her daughter Cynthia Kuhlmann O Connor; her niece Karen (Leroy) Hartman; and her grand nephew Mark Hartman. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Kuhlmann and Maria (Joe) Scudder; her granddaughters, Shannon (Thomas) Van Hyfte and Sarah (Matt) Koehlinger, four great granddaughters; cousins; grand nephews; great grand nephews and niece, and extended family of her late husband, Philip Sherman.

Marge was born August 3, 1931, in Pike County, Indiana. She attended school in Indiana and then moved to New Jersey after marrying her husband, Fred. After six years, they moved back to Indianapolis, Indiana. While living in Indianapolis, Marge worked at the RCA record factory. She remembered pressing Elvis Presley's 45 rpm record of "Hound Dog."In 1958, the family moved to Frankfort, Indiana, where Marge was employed at the Peter Paul Mounds candy factory. Much to the delight of her daughters, she regularly brought home boxes of candy rejects. In 1962, the family moved backed to Indianapolis, where Marge and her husband, Phil, were active in Glendale Christian Church. Marge and Phil relocated several times as a result of Phil's employment in the food service industry. They lived in Huntington, Indiana, Urbana Illinois, and Richmond, Indiana, before finally settling in Lexington, Kentucky in 1978. Marge worked at and retired from the GE factory in Lexington.

Marge was very creative and loved to sew. She made dresses for her daughters and granddaughters, curtains and slipcovers for her home, and, at the encouragement of her niece Karen, took up quilting in retirement. She enjoyed making lap quilts, which she donated to nursing homes each year at Christmas.

Marge also enjoyed reading and visiting thrift stores in search of books and bargains. She loved to hear from her granddaughters in Indiana and Phil's family in Michigan and catch up on the events of their lives. A call from them was the highlight of her day.

For many years, Marge was active at Lafayette Christian Church in Lexington and, more recently, at Bethel Presbyterian Church and Victory Christian Church. Marge and Phil always enjoyed cooking for church events and Sunday dinner for friends.

Marge lived a long, fulfilling life and remained active until the very end. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
