Margaret Jean Turner

Obituary Margaret Jean, 78, wife for 56 years of the late George M. Turner of Lexington, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010. She was the former Margaret Jean Inman, daughter of the late Earl and Frances Inman of Lawton, OK. She was born in Lawton on Dec. 17, 1931. Margaret grew up in the small town of Sterling, OK, where her parents were involved in school administration. She graduated from Lawton High School (1949), and Oklahoma University with an MA in music, studying piano. She was a resident at Sayre Christian Village since November of 2005. She spent her life at the keyboard, first as a young church organist at the First Baptist Church, Lawton, OK, in the late 1940's. She performed at several universities, including Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, OK, and the Univ. of Arkansas-Little Rock. She played for hundreds of weddings, gave countless private piano lessons, and served as church organist for 30 years at several churches in Lexington, including Gardenside Baptist Church, Rosemont Baptist Church, Crestwood Christian Church, and Lafayette Christian Church. She also worked in the 1990s at the University of Kentucky School of Music accompanying students for their performances. Margaret also organized a piano duet in the 1980s that performed in Kentucky and throughout the southeast. She served briefly as the minister of music at Rosemont Baptist Church in the mid-1970s. She was a devoted mother to her five sons as a Cub Scouts den mother, PTA vice president, and avid fan at their sporting events. She is survived by five sons: Larry (Kim) of northern Virginia; Brian (Kempa) of Lexington; Stuart (Virginia) of Knoxville; Russell (Julie) of Jacksonville, Florida; and Randy (Jill) of Lexington; and a brother Marvin Earl Inman of Nicholasville, Ky. She had sixteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral Information A Service will be 12 pm, Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Clark Legacy Center, followed by a reception until 3:00 p.m.
