Mary Dean Rawlings Browning

March 2, 1962 — April 30, 2026

Mary Dean Rawlings Browning, 64, of Lexington, KY, peacefully passed on April 30th, 2026.

Born March 2, 1962 in Lexington, KY, Mary attended Henry Clay High School, New Hampshire College, and the University of Kentucky.

Mary has devoted her life to her family, friends, animals and gardens. She loved having cookouts and celebrating the holidays. Her yard was known by many for her Halloween decorations.

Mary had a sweet disposition, a wicked sense of humor and liked to have fun.

She had an eye for style and collectibles, appreciating anything “vintage”. She worked many years in the business.

She loved to garden and prided herself on having the first tomato of the summer. Mary loved her cats and dogs, and was known as the “cat whisperer,” as furry animals had a knack for finding her, and in turn Mary had a knack for finding homes for them.

She was a devoted caretaker for her parents, a loving sibling and a close and loyal friend to her “extended family,” Shelby Jo Burgin, Nick Klaren, and Chad Kelly. And above all, a loving mother to her son Cameron and daughter Lacy.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy and Edsel Rawlings, and her brother Edsel Lacy Rawlings, Jr. She is survived by her two children, Jacob Cameron Browning; Elizabeth Lacy Browning (Brian Warner); her sister, Molly Rawlings Baughman (Graham), nieces Carter Anne Baughman (Adam Horn), Chloe Baughman and Aubrey Nadine Rawlings (Carlos Martinez).

Mary requested no service to be held. In remembrance, she’d likely say raise a glass, smell a flower, pet an animal, taste a ripe summer tomato and “take a walk on the wild side”. Her parting words were, “I want my friends and family to know I loved them”.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lexington Humane Society.
