Maurice Votaw, 92, of Lexington, and husband of Renate Kittel Votaw passed away at his home on Friday, October 2, 2026. He was born to the late Elmer Votaw and Edna Long Votaw on July 17, 1934 in Battle, Washington County, Kentucky. He was a member of Southside Church of Christ.

He graduated from Mackville High School, in Washington County, Class of 1952. He was a US Army Veteran who served honorably for 24 years including 2 tours in Korea and 1 tour in Vietnam. He achieved the rank of master sergeant and retired from the Army in 1981. Following his military service, he earned a carpentry license from Commonwealth Technical College of Lexington.

After retirement, he along with his wife, continued to serve by volunteering their time to the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, KY in excess of 15 years. He was chosen to be an Honor Flight participant in 2018 where he was accompanied by his grandson, Chris, as his guardian.

His hobbies included woodworking, fishing, traveling, and working on puzzles. Most of all, Maurice loved his family.

In addition to his loving wife of 59 years, he is survived by two children, Andreas Michael "Andy" (Tammy) Votaw and Angela Renee (Adam) Miller; five grandchildren: Victoria (Ben Gibson) Votaw, Christian Votaw, Jessica Conley, Corey (Bevin) Lawwill, and Benjamin (Meghin) Lawwill; and five great-grandchildren: Max, Alex, Arden, Miles, and Mavi. Beside his parents, he was preceded in passing by his sister, Pauline J. Elder.

His services are private.
