Michael John Lieb

June 30, 1942 — May 29, 2026

Michael John Lieb passed away peacefully in hospice care on May 29, 2026, surrounded by his beloved wife and sons. Known for his quiet confidence and tremendous work ethic, Mike leaves behind a legacy of dedication to his family and his career.

Born on June 30, 1942, on his maternal grandparents' homestead in Mansfield, Georgia, Mike was the eldest of eleven children born to John and Hazel Lieb. He graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School in 1960 and went on to study accounting at Prince George’s Community College.

On June 16, 1962, Mike married his loving wife, Lucille (“Lu”) Jones, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Cheverly, Maryland. Over their 63 years of marriage, Mike and Lu built a beautiful life together, raising their two sons, Michael (“Mickey”) and Todd.

A man of immense drive, Mike's diverse career spanned several decades and states. He began his working life with A&P Grocery (1958–1971) and the US Postal Service (1963–1969). In 1969, he joined Pargas, rising to the position of Vice President and General Manager of the coal division, a role that brought his family to Hazard, Kentucky, in 1971. He later served in the same capacity for Tesoro from 1978 to 1982. After moving on from the coal industry, Mike showcased his entrepreneurial spirit by owning several small businesses in Lexington, Kentucky.

Mike had a lifelong love of sports, especially baseball. He shared that love with the Perry County Kentucky community working with Little League, Babe Ruth, and Senior Babe Ruth organization in various administrative and coaching roles during his time in Hazard.

His professional journey continued when he relocated to Maryland in 1982 to become the Warehouse Manager for Pella Windows and Doors. In 1989, he moved to California, taking on the roles of Warehouse Manager and Purchasing Agent for Vivian, Inc. After a long and successful career, Mike retired in 2005. He and Lu enjoyed living in Arizona and Virginia before ultimately settling back in Lexington, Kentucky, in 2019. In his retirement, Mike thoroughly enjoyed traveling, particularly when it involved playing golf.

Above all, Mike cherished his family. He was affectionately known as "Pop" to his grandchildren: Tracy (Brandon), Erin (Justin), Megan (Max), Miranda (Zach), TJ, and Kyle. He was also the proud great-grandfather to Theodore, Daisy, and Weston.

Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Lu; his sons, Mickey (Lisa), and Todd; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings John, Joe (Pam), Jim (Paula), Patrick (Chris), and Mary (Lanny); as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his siblings Carole, Thomas, Anita, Stephen, and Mark.

In accordance with Mike's wishes, there will be no public memorial service. To honor Mike's life and legacy, the family kindly suggests donations be directed to Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice of Lexington, KY, www.bgcarenav.org.
