Nanci Gill Barnhart

Nanci Barnhart departed into eternal rest on January 14, 2018 at the age of 66, after a most courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Barnhart is preceded in death by her younger brother Chip, her wonderful mother Meg Ritchie and father Francis K. Gill. She leaves behind her husband of 43 years, Charlie, her adoring children Jennifer and Chip and her elder brother Steven Paul (Lucille) Gill. She was blessed with a talent and passion for music from an early age. Graduating from Meredith College in 1973 with a BA in Music, she began her Master’s degree in Music shortly after moving to Lexington. Her beloved teaching career began at Scott County Middle School, where she taught for 11 years. Nanci always wanted to teach elementary music and was given the opportunity at Dixie Elementary, where she was Teacher of the Year and recipient of the Creative Ticket Award. She remained there for 21 years until retirement. Even after retiring, she worked at St. Peter & Paul for 5 years as the Fine Arts Director and Meadowthorpe as a reading & math intervention specialist, She was a devoted member of the Lexington Singers, which brought much joy and friendship over the years, where she served on the board of directors. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm on Sunday, January 21 with a memorial service beginning at 4pm at Clark Legacy Center, 601 E. Brannon Rd, Nicholasville, KY. Ashes will be spread at a later time by immediate family members, as per Nanci’s wishes.
