I can only try to give you a glimpse into the heart and soul of this person who changed my life forever. Over the years, I have read some beautiful descriptions of people who have written about their loved ones. What a challenge we writers have faced. How do I write about this person... who taught me to see the beauty in all of life, to see that all is sacred, a gift of God.... "Don't kill that spider; I'll take it outside." "Honee, I've got a load of recycled paper from work in the car. Would you take it to the recycling trailer?" "Be careful with the weed eater, sometimes the trees get scared when they see you comin'." "Would you help me fill the bird feeders?" "Rita called. They have four cats they can't find a home for. Do you think we could take them?" "Sweetee, please don't leave the water running while you're brushing your teeth." "Do you think we could afford to send $25 to PETA and $25 to GREENPEACE this month?" "The plants are thirsty, could you get the hanging ones for me?" She never stopped teaching me, her family, her grandchildren, John, Jake, Landon, Rylee, Will and Maggie, her nieces and nephews, Bobby, Amanda, Timmy, David and Charlotte Grace, two special little girls next door and anyone else who would listen to her. She was the oldest of 6 girls, Wanda, Connie, Betty Jean, Barbara and Jeannie born in Snow Hill, North Carolina. She loved those girls more than life itself. For the last 30 years, she was in Nicholasville and they were in NC. She spent endless hours on the phone helping them work through their problems and challenges. I would sometimes gently suggest she was trying to control them and she would always say something like, "My heart aches for them. I just want them to be happy." For many of her 30 years at Macy's, she served as the executive secretary to the store manager. Her colleagues said to me numerous times, "When we have a challenging customer complaint, we send them to Trish." She loved her work and the many friends she made over the years. She was my soul mate, the love of my life. No, our life was not perfect. We were like all other couples. We had our times when we would forget to celebrate each moment we have together. Now, I ache to hold her one more time and tell her how much I loved and adored her. Perhaps over time my despair and grief will lessen as I try with every ounce of strength within me to remember that she will live on in my heart. Life is a great teacher. I hope each moment all of us will remember the future is unknown and life is short. Let's commit ourselves to not wasting a second of it. Funeral Information We have a big family. Come to Trinity Hills United Methodist Church on Tates Creek Road this Saturday from 11 to 1 and visit with us and then at 1 join us for a Memorial Service celebrating her life.
