Richard Mansfield Lane

December 26, 1937 — May 26, 2026

Richard Mansfield Lane, 88, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on May 26, 2026. He was born in Troy, New York, on December 26, 1937, to Arthur A. and Irma M. Lane. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur A. Lane Jr.

Richard earned a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Speed Scientific School at the University of Louisville, graduating as Valedictorian of the Class of 1961. He worked for IBM as an engineer for 30 years before retiring. He thrived in retirement, spending three decades traveling, golfing, and enjoying time with his cherished family.

He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He loved telling people that he and his wife Linda had been married for 65 years, always the last couple standing in the longest-married dance at weddings. He was patient and kind, endlessly curious, full of questions, and a wealth of knowledge he loved to share. You could find him playing with the kids, and he never missed a recital, game, play, or graduation. He shared countless cookies with the grandkids and taught them to eat dessert first. We will carry the best things from him with us forever.

Besides his wife of 65 years, Linda, those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Cynthia Anne (James Tommy) Hague; son, David (Michelle) Lane; grandchildren, Meghan (Nathan) Potter, Sarah (Seth) Lorimer, Amy (Jason) Bridges, Hannah (Matt) McClenahan, Isaac (Ashley) Lane, Aaron Lane, Elijah Lane, Tiffany (Nathan) Rader, Amber (Brandon) Hague; and great grandchildren, Wyatt, Mason, James, Graham, Charlee, Malachi, Myles, Olive, Addi, Jack, Holden, Sam, Josephine, Isabel, Sofia, and Auxier.

To honor the life of Mr. Lane, a visitation with a gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, May 29, 2026 from 12-2pm at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing officiated by Rev. Dr. Todd Nelson, followed by funeral service starting at 2pm with graveside at 3:30 at the Lexington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lexington Humane Society.
