Robert Allan Averitt, 82, husband of Carolyn Hopwood Averitt, passed away on July 17, 2026 in Lexington. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on June 29, 1944 to the late Dr. James W. and Shirley Flanders Averitt. Robert was an engineer with IBM-Lexmark for many years before his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn Hopwood Averitt, son, Jeffrey Allan (Lorie) Averitt, daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Denny) Averitt-McCardle, grandchildren, Ashbrook Averitt, Sutton Averitt, Hannah (Adam) Averitt Castleberry, Jake Averitt, Sister, Shirley Ann Averitt.
.He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Matthew Averitt, grandson, Jesse Matthew Averitt, and two brothers, James Flanders Averitt and David Woodford Averitt.. Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Lexington on Saturday, August 8th, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 PM.
